Kwade Hoek, where the river meets the sea.
If you want to experience the dynamics at play between the river and the sea in the delta region, this is the place to be. The trail, which follows a route through dunes, marshland and mudflats and across unpaved tracks and duckboards, allows you to discover countless birds and more than 300 different plant species, including orchids. Those sections of the route which are under water, so not so easy to negotiate, are a source of intrigue and surprise. Wading birds, natterjack toads, water frogs and dragonflies are amongst the fauna on offer. Occasionally, you might even startle a deer on the way to the beach.
